Star formation quenching stages of active and non-active galaxies

The mechanisms that bring galaxies to strongly reduce their star formation activity (star-formation quenching) is still poorly understood. To better study galaxy evolution, we propose a classification based on the maps of ionised hydrogen distribution, traced by kpc-resolved, equivalent width H$\alpha$ maps, and nuclear using information from BPT diagnostic diagrams. Using these tools, group sample 238 CALIFA survey in six quenching stages (QS): objects dominated recent formation; systems present quiescent-nuclear-ring structure centre; are centrally-quiescent; with no clear pattern ionisation gas distribution - mixed; posses only few star-forming regions nearly-retired, or completely quiescent fully-retired. Regarding activity, further divide into two groups active host weak strong AGN centre, non-active objects. Galaxies grouped stage classes occupy specific locations star-formation-rate versus stellar mass diagram. "Blue cloud" populated galaxies, "Green valley" centrally-quiescent mixed systems, "Red sequence" nearly- fully-retired Generally, show properties, comparable counterparts at same stages, except for AGN-hosting systems. degree star-formation increases along emission-line sequence proposed reinforce "inside-out" scenario, which foresees suppression begins central galaxies.
